If hard data bears out a lack of growth in the PC gaming segment, when one considers this against the backdrop of PC ubiquity in all middle-class/salaried households, it's definitely hard to understand. Do you really need to wonder why the console sections of pure gaming stores is so much larger than the PC sections? Because very few people buy PC games, and a good portion of the people who do return them. The Xbox version of Thief outsold the PC version almost 2:1.

In the long term the console profit margins stomp PC sales in an almost sickening way. Both Activision and id are going to make more of the Xbox version of Doom3 than they could possibly hope from the PC version. Look at it this way, Doom in all its incarnations has only sold 2.5 million copies. Yes, but the port doesn't get made at all without id's OKAY and they obviously still profit some from every xbox game sold. Man, you vomitting up what other sites claim is getting old. They are? Really? You've played the game on finished code? Anyone has? This is why it is extremely doubtful split-screen would work very well. The issues are well known, Vicarious Visions have spent all their time working on it.
